Robert Franz Tichy is a full professor at the Department of Analysis and Number Theory, Technical University of Graz, Austria. For decades, he has been performing internationally acclaimed, outstanding education and research activities in several fields of pure and applied mathematics. His major scientific interest covers the theory of Uniform Distribution and Discrepancy, Diophantine Equations, Analytic Combinatorics, Algorithmic Number Theory, Fractal Structures, Asymptotic and Stochastic Analysis, Information Based Complexity, Quasi-Monte Carlo Methods and Mathematics in Finance and Insurance. His scientific work includes more than 250 peer-reviewed papers with a citation of more than 3000. He has been awarded a huge number of scientific grants. Since 2004 he is a Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences holding several administrative and academic positions and serving as editor of international scientific journals.
His connection with the University of Debrecen goes back to late 80’s and it has been intensively developed and developing. The fruitful research collaboration between the Austrian Diophantine Number Theory Research Group and the Number Theory and Cryptography School of Debrecen, founded by Professor Kálmán Győry, resulted in 64 joint publications in high quality international research journals. Over the years the cooperation has been successfully extended by involving PhD students and young researchers as well. Because of Professor Tichy outstanding career as a researcher, scholar and teacher, as well as his close relationship with colleagues from Debrecen, he definitely deserves to receive the Doctor Honoris Causa title from our university.
