Roland Laszig Kelet-Németországban született. Általános orvosi tanulmányait a kelet-berlini Humboldt Egyetemen, majd a Hamburgi Egyetemen végezte, majd 1982-ben fül-, orr- és torokbetegségek szakorvosi képesítést szerzett. 1993-ban professzori kinevezést kapott a Freiburgi Albert Ludwig Egyetem fül-, orr- és torokgyógyászati tanszékére, valamint kinevezték a Freiburgi Egyetemi Klinikájának fül- orr- gégészeti klinika igazgatójává. Alapítója volt a freiburgi Implantációs Centrumnak, amelynek 2019-ig igazgatója volt.
Fő kutatási területei a cochleáris implantáció és a hallásrehabilitáció. Tudományos munkássága elismertségét számos szakmai társaság tiszteletbeli tagsága, de több egyetem díszdoktori címe is jellemzi. Intenzív tudományos publikációs tevékenysége és széles körben használt tankönyvei is igazolják eredményes munkásságát mind a kutatásban, mind az oktatásban.
Laszig professzornak kulcsszerepe volt a cochleáris implantáció magyarországi bevezetésében, több debreceni szakember is elsajátíthatta ezt a technikát freiburgi klinikáján.
Roland Laszig was born in East Germany. He studied human medicine at the Humboldt University in East Berlin then at the University of Hamburg. From 1978 to 1982 he completed his training as a specialist in ear, nose and throat diseases. In 1993 he was appointed to the chair for ear, nose and throat medicine at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and managing director and full professor of the University Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology and Polyclinic Freiburg. He founded the Implant Centrum Freiburg and headed the ear, nose and throat clinic until 2019.
His main research areas are cochlear implant care and auditory rehabilitation. Many honorary memberships of various professional societies, but also doctorates from numerous universities characterize his scientific work. An intensive publication activity, which also includes book chapters textbooks, proves his activity in research and teaching.
Professor Laszig played a key role in the introduction of cochlear implantation in Hungary, several specialists from Debrecen could learn this technique in his Clinic.
