Dr. Erich Bernd Ringelstein, a Münsteri Egyetem (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität) professzorának díszdoktori avatása a Debreceni Egyetemen 2006. november 25.

 

Dr. Erich Bernhard Ringelstein is a neuro-vascular scientist and clinician, focusing his research on all aspects of cerebro-vascular diseases. He considerably contributed to the progression of the understanding of cerebro-vascular diseases eventually leading to novel therapy developments like thrombolysis.

For his scientific work, he was honoured by the German Neurological Society with the Hugo Spatz-Award in 1992. One of his basic papers was also honoured by a special award (Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology 2001). Terms like "territorial infarctions" or "cerebral microangiopathy" have been coined by Prof. Ringelstein.

From 2002-2004 he has been the President of the German Stroke Society. In 2003 he was appointed "Honorary Member of the Austrian Society for Stroke Research". He has been President of the European Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics for many years.

Professor Ringelstein in cooperation with Professor Csiba has founded a successful cooperation between the Departments of Neurology in Münster and Debrecen. Numerous young physicians travelled from Debrecen to Münster and vice versa. Besides publications in reputated international journals, Doctor theses, 4 PhD and one habilitation have been based on the results of the common work in the laboratories of the Debrecen and Münster University.
