Dr. Karsten Krohn, a Paderborni Egyetem (Németország) professzorának díszdoktori avatása a Debreceni Egyetemen 2007. június 2.
Dr. Karsten Krohn received his Ph.D. degree in 1971 from Kiel University. Then he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Kiel (1971-1973) and Hannover Universities (1973-1975) where he became assistant professor in 1975. After his habilitation he was appointed associate professor at the University of Braunschweig and in 1991 full professor at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Paderborn. From 1994 to 1997 he was dean of the Faculty of Chemistry.
His research interest covers the chemistry of biologically active natural products and his scientific results were published in more than 270 international journals of high impact factor (from these, 21 were co-authored with Hungarian researchers), he also owns 4 patents. His scientific work has more than 1800 SCI citations. His professional achievements have been acknowledged by the Karl-Winacker award in 1982 and the Humboldt Award in 2006.
Professor Krohn has been cooperating successfully with our Universtiy as well as with researchers of other Hungarian institutes and companies for many years. These cooperations were realized in common publications, exchange and Ph.D. programs and lecture invitations. He contributed significantly to the establishment of a partnership between the University of Paderborn and our University which enabled students to spend shorter or longer periods of time at the University of Paderborn.
Professor Krohn is an acknowledged organic chemist and he has greatly supported Hungarian scientific life at various international forums.
