Professor Karl Strambach studied mathematics at Frankfurt University between 1961 and 65. His early scientific work was greatly influenced by Reinhold Baer and Hans Freudenthal, who were excellent mathematicians of the 20th century. He defended his habilitation thesis at Tübingen University in 1968. Professor Strambach became a professor at Kiel University in 1971, and he has been a full professor at the Institute of Mathematics of Erlangen-Nürnberg University since 1972. He was the dean of the Faculty of Science at the same university between 1985-87. Professor Strambach achieved outstanding research results in several important fields of geometry, topology and algebra. He is the managing editor of several prestigious international mathematical research journals. He was an editor-in-chief of the journal Geometriae Dedicata for 30 years; his name has become inseparable from the scientific profile of this journal. He and his collaborators founded a new successful scientific journal with the title Advances in Geometry in 2002, based on his own scientific program. Professor Strambach encouraged various cooperations in the fields of science and university education with international partners, including the successful collaboration with our university. He has achieved outstanding results in the cultivation of talents within the framework of his scientific school: 29 PhD students defended their theses under his supervision, many of them are now outstanding experts of their scientific domains. He has over a 100 scientific publications in prestigious journals and books.
