Michael Erich Pohst is a worldwide acknowledged representative of algebraic number theory. Together with his research group they have developed and implemented the KANT (Computational Algebraic Number Theory) program package, which for the first time allowed mathematicians all over the world to calculate basic data of higher degree number fields. His book Algorithmic Algebraic Number Theory written together with H. Zassenhaus is one of the most important literature in its discipline. He is an editorial board member of Journal of Number Theory, the leading number theory journal and Journal of Symbolic Computation and Experimental Mathematics the leading computer algebra journals. He is the main organizer of the algorithmic number theory conferences held regularly in Dagstuhl, which play an essential role in this research area.
