Dr. Andrei Marga, a kolozsvári Babes-Bolyai Egyetem rektorának díszdoktori avatása a Debreceni Egyetemen 2003. május 24.

 

Professor Andrei Marga is a highly esteemed representative of philosophy in Romania and in Europe as well as an outstanding personality in the cultural life of Romania.

Professor Andrei Marga graduated in philosophy at Babes-Bolyai University – Cluj and he defended his Ph.D. thesis in 1976.

Professor Marga’s field of specialization is contemporary philosophy. He has published a great number of books and papers on American pragmatism, general logic, philosophical methodology as well as argumentation and philosophy of European unification.

Professor Andrei Marga has been elected to fulfill several leading scientific and cultural roles in Romania. At the beginning of the nineties he served as Dean and Vice-Rector at Babes-Bolyai University, and he has been rector of Babes-Bolyai University since 1993. Between 1997-2000 Andrei Marga was the minister of national education in Romania and was elected to the Board of the European University Association in 2001.

The Philosophy Department of the University of Debrecen has a very close linkage with the Philosophy Department of Babes-Bolyai University. Professor Andrei Marga has always supported the continuous collaboration between the two departments in particular, and between our universities in general.
