In addition to the world university rankings, the British Times Higher Education (THE) publishes its thematic world rankings each year in 11 major subject areas.
In the case of thematic rankings, only the scientific work of the given field is taken into consideration in the publication and citation indicators.
In addition, the weight of each indicator also reflects the specifics of the given field – for instance, while citations in the overall ranking account for 30% of the total score and proportional industry revenues only 2.5%; in the case of engineering and technology ranking, citations only account for 27.5% of the overall score, while the proportional industry revenues 5%.
In 2021, the University of Debrecen was ranked among the best in four thematic rankings.
