Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranked universities in emerging European and Central Asian countries under the name Emerging Europe and Central Asia. In the list published in December 2021, the indicators of 450 universities were compared and published by the ranking creators. There are 16 universities from Hungary on the list and there are 4 Hungarian universities among the top 40: Eötvös Loránd University was ranked 26th, the University of Szeged and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics 29th, and the University of Debrecen 40th.
In contrast to the world ranking, the narrower ranking reflects the quality of universities in developing countries more objectively, since this list does not include either American or English universities, higher education institutions with similar financial opportunities are compared. When creating the order, the creators of the list weigh 10 major factors: academic reputation 30%, employer reputation 20%, faculty/student ratio, the number of publications per faculty and publications on the web 10-10%, number of PhD graduates, citations of publications and web impact 5-5%, while the ratio of international faculty and international students 2,5-2,5%.
