The Outpatient Specialist Care Center of the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen is located in the heart of the city, on Bethlen Street. It is easily accessible by public transport, car, and on foot. Its service area covers the city of Debrecen and a significant part of Hajdú-Bihar County. It is one of the largest and highest-capacity outpatient specialist centers in the country, providing 2,000 specialist consultation hours per week and approximately 360,000 doctor–patient visits annually.
The institution operates in the classical sense as a multidisciplinary center, offering a wide range of specialist services in one location. In 73 consulting rooms (and their associated service areas), outpatient services in 39 medical specialties are available for both adults and children. These are supported by high-capacity diagnostic units (blood sampling unit, radiology services) as well as complementary services (physiotherapy, exercise therapy room, infusion clinic). The diagnostic units also serve examination requests initiated by general practitioners.
Outpatient specialist care also integrally includes certain specialties (psychiatry, pulmonology, and the breast screening unit), which—partly for privacy reasons and partly for epidemiological considerations—were previously established and continue to operate separately from the central building at the Varga Street and Jerikó Street sites.
In addition to consulting rooms, the central building also houses a pharmacy, an optical shop, a medical aids store, specialized hearing aid distribution, and dental services operated by external providers.
The Outpatient Specialist Care Center does not function in isolation; it operates in close cooperation with specialized outpatient units whose operation requires personnel and technical resources provided by the Clinical Center and the institutions located on the Kenézy Gyula Campus. These institutions also provide the inpatient care background supporting our operations.
