The Department of Surgery at the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen is one of the country’s largest surgical institutions, offering a wide range of services. Currently, we serve patients at two locations: the Nagyerdei Campus and the Kenézy Gyula Campus. Our facilities include 202 beds, 13 operating rooms, and 12 specialized outpatient clinics. Our dedicated team comprises 64 surgeons, 1 nephrologist, 199 healthcare professionals, and 1 scientific assistant. Under the professional leadership of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, we manage patients in an additional 18 postoperative intensive care beds.
The Nagyerdei Campus operates in a modern building inaugurated in 2006 as part of the Augusta Project. Equipped to European standards and situated in the beautiful surroundings of the Nagyerdő (Great Forest), this campus houses our Level III Oncological Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Transplant Surgery Departments. Additionally, the Robotic Surgery Center is located here.
At the Kenézy Gyula Campus, we perform Level II general surgical procedures and same-day surgical interventions. This campus also hosts the Limb Surgery Ward of our Department, where we treat septic surgical patients with complications arising from diabetes and vascular occlusion.
In the field of general surgery, we excel in treating diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, colon, liver, pancreas), surgical conditions of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, breast surgery, gallbladder surgery, and hernia repairs.
Each year, we perform more than 9,000 surgeries at the Department of Surgery, alongside providing care for 72,000 outpatient visits. Our patient satisfaction ratings have consistently reflected 90–95% positive feedback in recent years.
