Regardless of citizenship, every patient in Hungary has the right to life-saving care in case of urgent need, to prevent serious or permanent health damage, to relieve pain and reduce suffering.
In case of urgent need, there is therefore no need for a referral, but emergency care can be used immediately and directly.
Emergency care in Debrecen started on September 1, 2007, in the ground floor department of the 1st Internal Medicine Clinic. On November 1, 2017, the first independent Emergency Clinic of our country was established in the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen.
Emergency care in Debrecen takes place at two locations: the Nagyerdei Campus and the Kenézy Gyula Campus. Several examination rooms and the so-called Acute Primary Care Unit are available for outpatient care on both Campuses. The inpatient departments are equipped with a monitoring system, modern ventilators, cardiac ultrasound devices, defibrillators and other devices for emergency patient care. Both Campuses have a complete diagnostic background for high-level, quality and safe patient care.
The Emergency Clinic was the first in the country to implement Adult Medical Emergency Care, within the framework of joint cooperation with the National Ambulance Service.
EMERGENCY PATIENT CARE IS NOT IN ORDER OF ARRIVAL, BUT IN ORDER OF SEVERITY.
After the registration of Patients in the medical system, the aim of the primary condition assessment (triage) is to classify the Patient into the triage category ranging from 1 to 5 within the shortest possible time, according to the severity of their current condition. (1: requires immediate care, 2: critical, 3: urgent, 4: less urgent, 5: can be postponed).
For each category, the first medical examination takes place within the assigned time interval.
Based on these, further imaging and laboratory tests may begin, after which the treating physician informs the patient of the results obtained and decides on the need for further treatment or the possibility of discharge.
The Emergency Clinic is located on the Nagyerdei Campus, in the Emergency and Gastroenterology Block.
