At the Department of Dermatology at the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen Teaching Hospital 15 beds are available for general dermatology patients, 10 beds for dermatological immunology and 15 for dermato-oncology. Besides these, we provide care for patients with burns on 4 beds for intensive care, 15 for burn surgery, and 10 beds for reconstructive plastic surgery.
There are also ten outpatient clinics operated by the department with 248 specialist consultation hours. Our specialized outpatient clinics cover specialist consultations in the fields of allergology-immunology, dermatooncology, dermatologic surgery, photodermatology, phototherapy, psoriasis and wound treatment-vein specialization, and fungal-STD on a regional level. At the department we also focus on aesthetic dermatology as part of a fee-paying scheme.
At the highest level of progressivity specialists with several qualifying exams and tremendous experience and specialized health care professionals provide care for our patients. Our institution regularly participates in clinical trials of drugs not yet available on the market (GCP stages II-IV.).
The definitive care of inpatients and outpatients is supported not only by specialists, assistants, and nurses but also by the laboratories operated by the Department of Dermatology, including the clinical, histological, and mycological laboratories. The main profile of the clinical lab is the in-vitro study of drug allergy. The mycology lab provides an opportunity for the cultivation of pathogenic fungi and the typology of their species. In the dermatopathology lab pathologists process 3,500 samples annually. The majority of the samples are benign and malignant tumors removed from the skin but other materials from skin biopsy are also processed for diagnostic and differential diagnostic purposes. In the field of diagnostics, besides routine histological procedures, frozen section procedure, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry (Immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase methods) examinations and Mohs surgery (microscopically controlled surgery) are also available.
