The Department of Neurology offers an extensive range of health promotion activities. On the one hand, we join the Word Stroke Day every year with professional programs, the specialists of outstanding knowledge regularly deliver educational lectures; for example, the director of the department gave a talk at the Mindentudás Egyeteme [University of Omniscience] lecture series with the title “Do we stand a chance against stroke?" The department has also participated in projects where the main objective is to inform and educate the population. In 2009, for example, as part of the Hungary-Romania Cross-Border Co-operation Program (HURO/0901/229/2.4.2) the department participated in several screening programs and educational events.
Besides these, the physicians of the department also participated in the national health promotion program, which was aimed at developing a patient education program based on medical professional protocols to improve the knowledge and increase the awareness of the population regarding acute stroke. In the waiting room of our department, a vascular risk assessment computer is available that we have developed ourselves based on national and international guidelines. This provides information on the risk of vascular diseases based on the analysis of data provided by patients.
It is also a key priority for the department to provide further training programs for related fields, thus it offers further training courses for cardiologists, internists, and general practitioners regularly.
