Institute for Primary Care and Health Promotion of Debrecen

In March 2019, the Local Government of Debrecen County decided to transfer primary healthcare tasks to the University of Debrecen. With the transfer of primary healthcare tasks, the first complex institutional primary care system operating with university backing was established in Hungary, run by the Debrecen Institute for Primary Care and Health Development (hereinafter DAEFI).

The Institute's organizational units:

School and Kindergarten Health Care

School health care operates within a regulated framework based on regulations, in connection with which primary and secondary school students undergo mandatory screening tests every two years, in so-called "indicator" years. These screening tests are carried out at the Institute's screening center, where, in addition to school health tasks, ECG and complex hearing tests are also performed as supplementary examinations, and health education lectures are held.

County Health Visitor Service

From July 1, 2023, health visitors working in Hajdú-Bihar County will carry out their activities under the supervision of the County Health Visitor Service. The aim of the complete domestic organizational restructuring was to ensure uniform professional management and to provide families and children with services that meet individual needs and are of a higher standard than before. Currently, 218 health visitors work in 226 health visitor districts in the county.

Breast Milk Collection Station

Its task is to collect breast milk from mothers who have surplus milk in addition to breastfeeding their own children, and to provide breast milk to sick, premature, and low-birth-weight babies whose mothers are unable to breastfeed them.

Basic Dental Care and Emergency Services

School dental care provides basic dental care for the city's students, including twice-yearly screening examinations in 28 school dental districts for approximately 42,000 children. The organisational unit also covers 7 orthodontic and 2 oral surgery districts. Dental emergency care is provided for the residents of Debrecen on weekends and public holidays.
