Department of Pulmonary Medicine

The Pulmonary Clinic has 108 active beds for patients requiring pulmonology and pulmonary oncology care. Pulmonary rehabilitation care is provided on 15 beds. We have outpatient clinics in pulmonology, oncology, rehabilitation, allergology, sarcoidosis and cystic fibrosis. Our outpatient departments are staffed by specialists in oncology, allergology, immunology and respiratory rehabilitation.

Our Bronchoscopy Laboratory provides both outpatient and inpatient care. In addition, we also carry out examinations in the wards, intensive care units and operating theatres of other clinics on a consultancy basis. The examinations are carried out by appointment and, if necessary, as a matter of urgency.

Bronchoscopy can be performed for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Diagnostic bronchoscopy basically involves various sampling procedures for certain diseases, taking cytological, histological and bacteriological samples from the airways and lung tissue. To approach lesions not visible in the bronchial system, it is possible to use X-ray fluoroscopy or EBUS, even during transthoracic needle biopsy.

During therapeutic bronchoscopy, endoscopic treatment of certain diseases is performed, such as rigid tube bronchoscopic dilatation of airway stenoses, laser treatment of tumours causing airway stenosis, removal of foreign bodies in the airways.

Our allergology department provides diagnosis, advanced therapy and care of respiratory diseases such as allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, allergic extrinsic alveolitis, allergic pulmonary aspergillosis, bee and wasp sting allergy. It also provides care and treatment once a week to adult patients with cystic fibrosis over the age of 18.

The clinic also diagnoses, treats and cares for sarcoidosis, interstitial lung diseases (fibrosis), and selects and prepares patients for lung transplantation if necessary. This work is supported by an interdisciplinary ILD team.

State-of-the-art oncological care for lung cancer patients is provided in outpatient, inpatient and curative care, using an interdisciplinary oncoteam team.

We place a strong emphasis on outpatient and inpatient respiratory rehabilitation, with the assistance of our specialists and physiotherapists.

Our Intensive Care Unit cares for patients with severe, life-threatening respiratory conditions, which may include organ replacement treatments.
