Department of Neurosurgery

The Department of Neurosurgery at the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen, as a regional center performs the full spectrum of neurosurgical procedures. In addition to continuous outpatient care, we provide inpatient care with 33 general and 8 intensive care beds, supported by our specialized nurses. Along with basic neurosurgical interventions, highly specialized operations are also performed:

  • Surgical treatment of brain and spinal cord tumors
  • Pediatric neurosurgical procedures
  • Complex spinal surgeries (spinal tumors, scoliosis correction)
  • Treatment of vascular malformations through open surgery or endovascular techniques (aneurysms, AV malformations, AV fistulas, cavernomas)
  • Endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures
  • Skull base surgery
  • Microvascular decompression
  • Functional neurosurgical procedures (treatment of movement disorders with deep brain stimulation, treatment of pain syndromes with stimulation, treatment of spasticity with selective dorsal rhizotomy or implanted drug delivery pumps, complex epilepsy surgery)
  • Gamma knife radiosurgery

The comprehensive and high-quality neurosurgical care is supported by close collaboration with specialists in intensive care, pediatrics, medical imaging, oncology, and orthopedics. The safety of our surgeries is further enhanced by the use of microscopic and endoscopic techniques, multimodal neuronavigation, and intraoperatíve electrophysiology.
