In 2021, the Coordinating Centre for Epidemiology was established under the leadership of the Clinical Centre of the University of Debrecen. This initiative, the first of its kind in Hungary, was founded on the recognition that the prevention and effective management of epidemics require a structured and comprehensive approach.
The University of Debrecen is committed to active and effective participation in the fight against epidemics and infectious diseases, thereby enhancing the safety of patient care. To this end, the Coordinating Centre for Epidemiology was established. Operating as an organizational unit of the Clinical Centre, the Centre cooperates with regional and national professional healthcare organizations and institutions in support of this objective.
The Centre’s primary responsibilities include the development of strategic coordination and oversight measures, as well as the provision of data and knowledge generated during epidemic-related patient care to the University leadership and the competent authorities, thereby contributing to more effective protection against epidemics and infectious diseases.
Tasks
- Participation in epidemic-related decision-making and decision-support processes of the University of Debrecen and its Clinical Centre, including the communication of professional findings and recommendations to decision-makers.
- Application of epidemiological methods and preparation of statistical analyses.
- Continuous monitoring and analysis of data related to epidemics and infectious diseases, and cooperation with nationally competent bodies and institutions.
- Provision of reliable information to professionals and the public on infectious diseases, including their effective prevention and treatment.
- Identification, assessment, and reporting of current and emerging epidemiological emergency situations and infection waves to the University leadership and the competent authorities.
