Our clinic operates as an independent organizational unit of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre (UDCC). Our 18-bed inpatient ward and outpatient unit with two treatment areas are currently located in the bulding of the Otorhinolaryngology and Oro-Maxillofacial Surgery. A wide corridor connects the Oro-Maxillofacial Surgery and Stomatology department with the building of Faculty of Dentistry.
Maxillofacial surgery is a specialized surgical field that deals with the surgical treatment of soft tissues of the face, facial bones, the anatomical structures and organs of the surrounding region, as well as pathological changes in the oral cavity.
Our specialty partially encompasses what is commonly referred to as "oral surgery." Consequently, some of these classic oral surgical procedures—specifically certain dental surgical interventions—are performed at our Oro-Maxillofacial Surgery and Stomatology Clinic. However, the majority of patients requiring such dental surgical interventions are treated by the Outpatient Suite of Dentoalveolar Surgery, which is part of the Clinic of Dentistry (the outpatient clinics and treatment areas are located within the building of Faculty of Dentistry).
In addition to dental surgical procedures, our specialty also includes trauma surgery of the face and skull, tumor surgery, surgery of developmental disorders and surgery of the large salivary glands and jaw joint disease. We handle our tasks with daily collaboration of the dentoalveolar surgeons and healthcare professionals of the field.
In addition to the maxillofacial surgery care in north-eastern Hungary, our clinic participates in the initial training of dental students, medical students, as well as in the postgraduate training of dentists, facial and oral surgeons, residents and specialist medical candidates.
Our specialization, oro-maxillofacial surgery and stomatology, is a kind of multidisciplinary node. We regularly work with the medical and dental disciplines in cooperative work.
