The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of Debrecen is a nationally leading institution in all areas of the profession. We have built our clinic on evidence-based medicine, because we believe that this is the best way to serve the safety and healing of our patients. Our clinic's core departments are Perinatology, Gynaecology and Oncology, all of which are regional centres and, as a result of these principles, provide our patients the most up-to-date care available.
In terms of our obstetric care, we have become the largest obstetric facility in the country following the establishment of the Integrated Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinic. We have renovated our labour wards and maternity wards to promote safe and undisturbed labour. Thanks to the use of evidence-based protocols, our clinic has the lowest incidence of caesarean section among university hospitals and level III centres in the country. We support spontaneous delivery after caesarean section (VBAC), several of our staff are members of the National Committee for the Promotion of Breastfeeding (NPCB), which plays a key role in promoting family-friendly principles, and we were the only university clinic to participate in the first national comprehensive pilot training organised by the NPCB.
In our gynaecological oncology department, we also have a number of highly skilled cancer surgeons and perform certain procedures that are only available in our clinic in the country. We work closely with the Surgery and Oncology Clinics for cross-border interventions. From 2024, we are also performing robotic surgery, which will give our patients access to world-class technology for the treatment of complicated cases of gynaecological tumours and endometriosis.
Our Gynaecology Department also performs a number of procedures (examples include hysteroscopy, endometriosis surgery, other minimally invasive surgical options, gynaecological pelvic floor surgery) that offer our patients the best treatment options for these problems by nationally and internationally recognised specialists.
Our aim is to ensure that all patients who come to us receive the same high quality of care. This means that we constantly monitor our own work, refine our care and provide regular training for our staff.
As a university clinic, education and training of the future generation of doctors is of paramount importance to us. In addition to gradual education, we are also a leader in postgraduate and specialist training. In 2021, our clinic renewed its EBCOG accreditation and in 2025 became the only clinic in the country to obtain the GESEA Training Centre accreditation, further enhancing patient safety through strict quality criteria.
In the field of science, we are committed to increasing the number of our staff members with scientific degrees. We have extensive number of collaborative research partner institutions, and we are active in participation in the national and international scientific communities.
