Dr. Frank Lehmann-Horn (D) - ÁOK, 2003. november 29.

Dr. Frank Lehmann-Horn, az Ulmi Egyetem (Németország) professzorának díszdoktori avatása a Debreceni Egyetemen 2003. november 29.

Dr. Frank Lehmann-Horn first graduated as an engineer, then in 1978 as a medical doctor in Munich, Germany. He first accepted a position at the Department of Physiology then continued as a clinician at the Neurology and Psychiatry Clinic at Technology University of Munich. He currently is the chairman of the Department of Applied Physiology at the University of Ulm, and also the director of their International Doctoral Program.

His scientific interest has been shaped by the engineering background and the theoretical and clinical experiences he gained as a medical doctor. Dr. Lehmann-Horn made outstanding contributions in the study of surface membrane ion channels and in the understanding of their molecular structure and genetic determination. He was particularly successful in describing the pathomechanisms of those hereditary disorders that are linked to the alterations in ion channels, the so called channelopathies.

Dr. Lehmann-Horn has long connections to the University of Debrecen. This research and clinical collaboration with the Departments of Physiology and Neurology, resulted in more than 10 publications. The Departments in Debrecen and in Ulm were partners in 3 joint EU projects and in a European Research Training Network together with 9 Western-European research groups.
